Sedentary behaviour refers to any waking activity that occurs while sitting or lying down and requires very little energy expenditure.

So watching TV, playing video games, using a computer and driving a car are examples of sedentary behaviour – whereas using a rowing machine, because of the effort required, is not.

Reducing physical inactivity is as much (if not more) about reducing sedentary time spent at work, home and in leisure as it is about reaching a weekly target of 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity.
